About Me

I’m an essayist, poet, and publisher. My specific intrigues lie in Black cultural production and economies that support self-determination; my writing work has appeared in Technology Review, Boston Art Review, Hobart Pulp, Nonprofit Quarterly, the Bay State Banner, on this website (offmydome.com), and in Ujima’s various publications. I’ve also edited and published small book projects with Ujima Press, including a cookbook project, a reader series, a poetry chapbook, and an annual post-capitalist lifestyle magazine. I hold a Master's in City Planning and a Bachelor's in Mathematical Economics from MIT.

I studied participatory research, and culture, and I write about black art, the built environment, interactions in transit, policy, justice—anything that irks my ire, or holds my heart.

You can find my CV here, which has most of my previous publications; I also have links to all my clips and articles as the second tab on this site.

If you would like to hit me via email with tips, ideas, or just to hit me, it’s alula.hunsen@gmail.com, or alula@ujimaboston.com. My socials are @alulahussen on twitter, instagram, and threads. I’m looking to publish with a few other writers this year — pitch me!
